A prototype of the Golf VII R has been spied while conducting some testing.

The seventh generation of the Volkswagen Golf will be unveiled on September 4^th before arriving to the Paris Motor Show. The prototype you see in these spy photos is the R version of the Golf VII which will feature a center-mounted dual exhaust system, a more masculine front fascia and aerodynamic side skirts.

The Golf R is tipped to get a high-performance braking system, a sport-tuned suspension, along with 19- or even larger 20-inch alloys. Under the hood it will probably have the company?s 2.0-liter turbocharged engine tuned to develop 280 hp (208 kW / 284 PS) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. The hot hatch should be able to perform the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in under 6 seconds, en route to a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
